Category: High Desert Permaculture

Permaculture in Rio Grande Estates is a radical act of regeneration. While the “Llano” is often viewed as a barren expanse of sand and sage, we see it as a canvas for a thriving, self-sustaining food forest. Here in Veguita (87062), we work with nature rather than fighting it—designing systems that capture every drop of monsoon rain and shield our crops from the relentless spring winds.

In this category, we document our transition from “desert survivors” to “desert thrivers.” We focus on high-desert specific techniques that acknowledge the 5,000 ft elevation, the 7.5+ pH alkaline soil, and the 150-day growing season.

Community Trapping Initiative

"We were promised the cooperation of a trapper of CNM (trying to find out what it stands for). Just spoke with the trapper. He needs someone to start feeding the feral dogs. Once they are used to be fed at a specific place, he can trap them easier."

If you are aware of feral dogs, and would like to co-operate, we can get dog food to you, to start feeding the feral dogs so that when he comes, it will be easier to catch them.

Obviously, the packs of feral dogs become a big problem to livestock, chickens and other neighbors' pets. If you have a dog which is not marked with an owner's tag or an updated rabies tag, please be aware that your dog, when part of these feral packs, can be trapped and removed from the Llano.

URGENT NOTICE TO PET OWNERS:

If you have a dog which runs free, please contain such animal as these packs of destructive animals will be removed from the Llano.

Please contact me if you are willing to help us get rid of this growing problem here in our neighborhood. Please pass this message along to other neighbors and friends.

Nature's Vessel Security Swarm

A Message to the Bad Actors

If you’re here to cook, steal, or scrap—the Llano is getting smaller.

We aren't waiting for outside help that takes forty minutes to arrive. We are already watching. We are already recording. And now, we are organizing.

The "swarm" is waking up, and it has a very long memory for those who violate the peace of the Estates.
